Andy Friedman may be best known for his cartoons and magazine covers (New Yorker, Chicago Tribune Magazine) but increasingly he's been taking his music much more seriously. Recently, he's abandoned running visuals along with his alt-country influenced live sets, and he's said to be focusing more on the delivery of the songs. If they're anything like the songs on his new record, ‘Taken Man,’ then this will be a show to check out. Expect to hear plenty of twang but lyrically this is more akin to the beat poets or the song-poems of Tom Waits than the song fragments of Wilco or Sun Volt.
